Hydrogen – attracting further investment to drive changes

Western Gateway National Conference – ICC Wales, 9 June 2023, Hydrogen Gateway

Marubeni Europower Ltd (MEL) joined representatives from the public and private sector to explore the role hydrogen can play in the UK’s transition to Net Zero.

The Western Gateway’s national conference at the ICC Wales facilitated discussion and explored potential collaboration and investment opportunities.

Tomoki Nishino, President and CEO from MEL, participated in a panel discussion on finance and investment, which advocated the need for additional initiatives to bolster the UK’s attractiveness as an investment destination.

Mr Nishino said:

“Thousands of jobs, millions of pounds in investment and new export opportunities could be unlocked through a low carbon hydrogen sector, but what we need to see is better collaboration and investment.

“The current Government subsidy scheme has already brought positive impact, but further improvements are needed to encourage greater investment to help meet ambitious net zero targets and drive economic progress.”

During the event, MEL discussed its low carbon energy projects, including plans for HyBont Green Hydrogen Project in Bridgend, and reinforced its commitment to investment and economic development to support the UK’s decarbonisation targets.
