Workshops from hydrogen specialists receive high praise from local teachers
Marubeni Europower, in association with Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions, have visited over 530 local school pupils in their classrooms, where their Renewable Hydrogen Energy workshops have been described as ‘fantastic’, ‘engaging’, ‘both informative and very practical ’ by teachers.
Between September and December 2024 the team ran 18 workshops at 13 primary and secondary schools in Bridgend,Neath Port Talbot and Swansea.
The workshops showed how green hydrogen can be used as a renewable energy source, how it can be produced, stored, and play a vital role in decarbonising power, transport, mobility and many more industries. During the workshop, students assembled a mini electrolyser producing hydrogen from the electrolysis of water using solar power. They also had the opportunity to ride on a “Hydrogen Bike” and sit in a hydrogen powered car! Pupils also had the chance to ask the Marubeni team questions and to hear about what career opportunities there could be for them in this field in the future and the subjects they would need to study.
George Dodd, Senior Vice President, Marubeni Europower said:
“It was fantastic to see the children so interested and engaged in the opportunities for a greener future. We’ve had a very warm welcome and some really positive feedback from the pupils and their teachers. We’re looking forward to rolling out the workshop to more schools next year.”
Tanya Foxall, Business Manager at Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions said:
“It has been extremely rewarding teaching the next generation about how green hydrogen can be created and used as a renewable energy source to help make Wales more sustainable. The pupils enjoyed participating in the interactive elements of the workshop, and the teachers were excited to have learned about a new renewable energy source that they can incorporate into future lessons.”
Marubeni is committed to helping reduce carbon emissions in Wales and recognises the importance of the next generation understanding all about renewable energy, including the benefits and production process, as part of their STEM education.
