Marubeni and Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions Inspire Next Generation of Clean Energy Innovators at Brynmenyn Primary School
Bridgend, 11 June 2025 — Marubeni Europower and Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions delivered two dynamic, hands-on workshops to Year 5 students at Brynmenyn Primary School as part of the school’s annual Jobs Fair Week. The sessions immersed students in the world of renewable energy, with a special focus on the transformative potential of hydrogen.
A Marubeni Europower representative said:
“By engaging students with real-world technology and hands-on activities, we hope to spark their curiosity and inspire them to think about the role they can play in building a sustainable future. Today’s young learners are tomorrow’s innovators.“
During the workshops, students assembled mini electrolysers and observed the production of hydrogen through the solar-powered electrolysis of water. The learning extended beyond the classroom, as students had the unique opportunity to ride a “Hydrogen Bike” and explore the interior of a hydrogen-powered vehicle—making the technology tangible and memorable.
Feedback from students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with the teachers commenting that “Today’s workshop was very engaging and very informative. The pupils had a fantastic time and learnt lots of new things
As part of ongoing community engagement, a hydrogen-powered bus will travel to prestigious events such as the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club and the Royal Welsh Show, further raising awareness of clean energy solutions across Wales.
Tanya Foxall, Business Manager at Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions said:
“By demonstrating how hydrogen can be produced, stored, and used as a renewable energy source — particularly in transportation and through hands-on school workshops — we inspire public confidence and empower the next generation of decision-makers to see hydrogen as a viable alternative to fossil fuels.”
Richard Marwood, Bus Programme Director at Transport for Wales commented:
“Initiatives like these are crucial for inspiring the next generation and ensuring that Wales remains at the forefront of the clean energy revolution. At TfW we are investigating how we can decarbonise public transport across Wales, with plans for a hydrogen bus pathfinder project currently being developed.”
